Synaptics has introduced the Astra SR200 series, a family of edge processors it calls an xMCU. The chips are aimed at wearables, sensors, cameras, and industrial vision systems that need on-device AI without a separate applications processor.
Three pin-compatible tiers
The lines share one software kit. Synaptics lists the SR210 at 200 GOPS for always-on voice and sensing, the SR230 at 300 GOPS with vision and display, and the SR250 at 400 GOPS with dual vision and display paths.
What sits on the chip
The company describes a CPU pair of an Arm Cortex-M85 at 800 MHz and a Cortex-M52 at 200 MHz, plus an optional audio DSP. Inference runs on its Torq engine. The pitch is multimodal AI inside a microcontroller-class part, with memory scaling that would otherwise sit next to a larger processor.
